The color of your teeth.
The color of teeth is different for everyone. One person has whiter teeth, than another. Some teeth are yellow, others brown and others more grey. Teeth are never all the same color. The original color of the dentin is genetically determined. The enamel of teeth is almost transparent. The canines have a thicker layer of dentin than the other teeth. They are therefore often more yellow .
Which teeth are darker?
The colour of your teeth chance due to (amongst others) drinking coffee, tea and red wine. Smoking is also a cause of discoloration. In addition, your teeth become darker as you get older. Different whitening or bleaching methods
Bleaching a “dead” tooth.
The dentist will open the dead tooth and apply a paste with a bleaching agent. This paste has a few days a bleaching effect. Depending on the result achieved, the dentist will repeat the treatment one or several times. Finally, the denist will close the tooth with a permanent filling .

This allows the dental technician in a dental laboratory, to put the bleaching tray together. This is made of a soft plastic, specifically made to measure for your teeth. Your dentist tells you how long you need to contuinue the treatment in order to achieve the desired result. Bleaching tray with gel Usually you will wear the bleaching tray overnight . Depending on the discoloration you see after a few days or weeks result. During bleaching your teeth and gums may be temporarily sensitive. Consult your dentist if this complaint occurs.
Whitening at the dentist.
Whitening in the dental care center or at the dentist is by far the best and safest way to whiten or bleach your teeth. The dentist uses a concentrated peroxide which is significantly higher than the home teeth whitening products. A dentist whi is well equipped also often uses a bleaching light or sometimes a laser, increasing the speed of the bleaching process. The advantage of this technique, is the speed. It takes less time and it is better and less risky for your teeth. The erosion of the enamel is minimal.
How long does the whitening treatment ?
The length of a bleaching treatment depends on the bleaching method. At home tooth whitening usually takes two weeks before you reach any result.
Can all teeth be whitened ?
Color fillings, veneers (a shield of porcelain or composite), crowns and bridges can not be bleached or whitened. A whitening treatment for those teeth is pointless. Can home whitening under the supervision of a dentist or dental hygienist harm my teeth?
Research has shown that the outer part of the enamel is temporarily not quite so hard immediately after bleaching. The acid in the gel erodes the enamel very lightly and superficial. Rinse your mouth immediately after bleaching with fluoride. Home bleaching under the supervision of your dentist or dental hygienist has, if you follow the instructions, no lasting ill effects .
Can I eat or drink anything during the bleaching treatment ?
By bleaching the enamel of the teeth slightly weakens. This is temporary. The glaze recovers. During home treatment with the bleaching tray, certain foods and beverages affect the result. Examples include coffee, tea, red wine, carbonated drinks , citrus juice and dye containing foods such as fruit. During the treatment, the use of these products , as well as smoking, is not recommended.
Has teeth whitening or bleaching been proved safe?
We do not recommend you buy a teeeth whitening pakcage in some stores and over the internet. Many of these products are not specifically made for your teeth. For instance, if a bleaching tray does not really fit your teeth, the bleaching agent (hydrogen peroxide) could get on your gums. This can cause pain and damage. Many products do not work properly or contain too high concentrations of peroxide. The effect of prolonged or repeated bleaching is not completely known . If you want to bleach your teeth, always do so under the supervision of your dentist or dental hygienist!!
What result will I achieve?
The result is different for everyone. The base color of your dentin determines to a large extent the final result. Results are not permanent. In some cases, the discoloration is back after a few years. Also, bleached teeth will, just as non-bleached teeth, eventually discolor with age. This process goes faster if you smoke or drink a lot of red wine, coffee or tea.
Can I whiten my teeth with whitening toothpaste ?
