We have a total of 31 full time dental care professionals in our team, including five dentists, one radiologists, one endontologists, one implantologists, one orthodontists, four dental hygienists and ten dental prevention assistents. There are 6 nationalities represented in our team of dentists. For both new and existing patients, our philosophy is to work according to a treatment plan especially developed for your mouth. Usually, the objective of this plan is to retain your teeth for the duration of your lifetime. This plan is set up together with you. Treatment of your teeth will only take place after your specific situation has been discussed with you in detail.Naturally, a cost assessment will also be included with this plan. If there are any financial obstacles, a treatment plan can almost always be implemented in phases. Together with you, we will discuss how to fit the various treatments into your (annual) budget. It is better to prevent, then to cure. Most people do not know this, but most dental care problems can be prevented by taking regular care of your teeth and sufficient oral hygiene. At our dental care centre, we tend to focus on prevention.
How long does a periodic check-up take at Dentist Amsterdam and what do you do during these check ups?
We at Dentist Amsterdam take 40 minutes for a regular dental check up. During these 40 minutes, we check your teeth, professionally clean your teeth and provide you with explanations and intsructions on how to maintain your teeth.
Will I be assigned to one prevention assistant at Dentist Amsterdam?
No, our prevention assistants rotate on a continual basis. This is done on purpose in order to always have someone else look at your teeth with a slightly different perspective. If however, you prefer to have the same prevention assistant helping you, we can certainly accommodate your wishes.
Does Dentist Amsterdam make use of x-rays?
Yes, we do. We at Dentist Amsterdam make use of x-rays. It is impossible to see and detect hidden cavities, infections in the jaw and bone degradation with the bare eyes. We would like to know of any possible problems early on in order to take good preventive actions.
I have bad teeth and I often have a cavity to fill when I visit the dentist. Is there anything Dentist Amsterdam can do to help me deal with this problem and make sure I will not loose all my teeth?
Having bad teeth is a combination of genetics, nutrition and insufficient dental hygiene. We at Dentist Amsterdam can not help you with the genetics, but we can certainly help you with nutrition and dental hygiene and prevention schemes.
When I have booked an appointment at Dentist Amsterdam, will I have to wait for a long time in a waiting room, prior to being helped?
No, absolutely not. Dentist Amsterdam values your time. We plan 40 minutes visits and if everybody arrives on time, this should give us enough time to deal with every single patient and keep to our schedule.
I have bleeding gums, whenever I brush my teeth. What can I do about this?
Bleeding gums is very common. Healthy gums however, do not bleed. If your gums bleed, that indicates you have a infection. Ask your prevention assistants at Dentist Amsterdam to help you with this.
What other dental care Amsterdam services are offered? Can I for instance get my teeth bleached and is bleaching bad for my teeth?
Yes you can get your teeth bleached at Dentist Amsterdam and no, bleaching is not bad for your teeth if it is done by a professional. We have a special team at both dental practices that provide a clean, healthy and professional bleaching. We have even build a website dedicated to bleaching, which is called tanden bleken in Dutch. The current tanden bleken Amsterdam website is in Dutch, but we are looking to also provide an English version of the website in the near future. For the time being you can check the Tanden Bleken Amsterdam website and the Tandarts Amsterdam website
If I suffer of bad teeth, will my kids also have bad teeth?
No. if you happen to have bad teeth, your kids do not necessarily also have bead teeth. Most cavities develop at an early age, say between the ages of 4 and 21. After 21 it usually stops. One therefore needs to pay attention and take care of ones teeth at an early age and teach your kids the right habits and brushing techniques.
Is it still true that one should visit a dentist more often when one is pregnant?
No, this is no longer true. In the old days, one should to say said that every new born child would cost its mother a tooth. We at Dentist Amsterdam believe this is no longer the case. It is true that gums tend to become more easily infected during your pregnancy, but your prevention assistant at Dentist Amsterdam can tell you more how to deal with this problem.
What is the best age for a child to start visiting a dentist?
We at Dentist Amsterdam believe that you should take along young children to the dentist. This way, they get accustomed. We also believe that young children from the age of 3 or 4 should come in to see their dentist on a regular basis.
